Abstract
Intellectual property issues are increasingly at the forefront of starting and operating a high-tech business. Views and opinions about the role of intellectual property (IP) in high-tech businesses vary, but it is clear that the role of IP in high technology has evolved greatly in the last decade. Once exclusively the domain of lawyers, IP is moving quickly into the business sphere and is being used and managed by non-lawyer business owners. Because the old-school IP practices are quickly becoming outmoded, high-tech entrepreneurs need to keep current on the modern views of IP and its evolving role in starting and running high-tech businesses.
