Abstract
Many machine vision systems use cameras as measuring devices, for example to determine the geometry of an ob-ject, and hence the resolution of the camera and any dis-tortions in the image are very important. In this paper, the factors creating distortion and limiting resolution in a typical CCD imaging system are listed, and a method of calibration for some of these factors is outlined. Two techniques for increasing camera resolution by jittering', (taking multiple images displaced by a known sub-pixel amount) are described and some initial results are presented.
