Abstract
The stability of modes in a quasi-optical gyrotron is examined analytically and numerically for both free running, mode locked and phase locked equilibria. One key to the analysis is the fact that the mode eigenfrequencies are nearly integral multiples of a fundamental frequency corresponding to the reciprocal of the radiation transit time between mirrors. Analytically, results are obtained with the use of a klystron model.1,2
