Abstract
Magnetism is enjoying ever-increasing use in biomedical research. Although such fields may seem remote to spintronics, sometimes there can be surprisingly close connection, particularly relating to the magnetic microstructures used. This talk aims to introduce magnetics and spintronics researchers to some of the exciting new uses and potential opportunities of engineered magnetic microstructures in biomedical research. As one particular example, the talk will introduce how magnetic microstructures can enhance the functionality of magnetic resonance imaging, providing new forms of image contrast and multiplexing as well as new types of remote magnetic sensing of physiological and environmental conditions.
