Abstract

Modern information processing technology changes the way how paper documents are generated, stored, printed, distributed, and read. The basic technology is the electronic storage of documents, consisting of written text, images or drawings, in computer storage media, but it will take a long time until all steps in the treatment of documents will be performed in a complete electronic fashion. In fact, it may be doubted whether paper will ever disappear as a convenient base media for human use, with some exceptions in specialized use in totally computerized work areas.
