Abstract
With the improvement of economic and technological development in China, the daily trip demand of people is developing from group undifferentiated to personalized travel. In order to meet the growing diversification of travel demand, alleviate urban traffic problems, and promote the integrated development of the rail transit network, this article introduces an intelligent Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), which is a service that can provide safe, economical, comfortable, private, direct, 24-hour uninterrupted transportation. Through analysis of the existing literature on the PRT system, it is found that there are few studies on the PRT system in Chinese. To promote the development of PRT systems in China, this study first discusses the composition of network PRT systems, the principle of network planning, network layout and so on, and then takes Fuzhou University Town in China as an example, puts forward the conceptual PRT network planning scheme to discuss the possibility of PRT system development in Fuzhou University Town. This paper aims to gain experience from this study and investigate a theoretical method of intelligent transportation network planning that is consistent with the characteristics of PRT systems and the development status of urban transportation in China, in order to provide theoretical reference for the planning and design of PRT systems in Chinese cities. At the same time, it can provide a new approach to issues such as unreasonable urban road network configuration, small green areas, ground traffic congestion, inconvenient travel, road resource shortages, and so on.
