Abstract
The work described here is the result of an attempt to implement a unified representation for the display, storage, model matching, location and analysis of cardiac images. The Symmetrical Axis Tranaform (SAT) has attributes which make it useful for object representation, induding 3-D objects. It is hierarchical, compact, exact and fast. Using these characteristics, object recognition has been done using SAT [6], and means of obtaining surface descriptions for 3-D object8 has been reported [4]. The SAT has been described using morphological operations [5]. This paper describes an extension of the SAT to the representation of arbitrary non-Eudidean surfaces using geodesic operators put forth by Lantejoul and Beucher [2].
