In this work, we studied how the scatter-to-primary ratio changes with the energy threshold in photon counting CT. Both Monte Carlo simulations and experimental measurements demonstrated a significantly reduced SPR in the high-energy bin projection data and reduced scatter artifacts in the reconstructed CT images. A new data acquisition scheme named Mohi-Polo was proposed by pushing the high energy threshold towards maximum keV, which generates a quasi-Monochromatic high energy bin and a Polychromatic low energy bin. Utilizing the nearly scatter-free high-energy bin data, we developed an innovative solution to correct the scatter artifacts in the low-energy bin.
