Abstract
I propose to review some of the scientific basis for pigment technology as it is applied to printing inks and the newer printing systems. In this I interpret pigments as referring to solid particulate colouring material in inks, be they Litho ink, electrostatic toner or ink jet systems. The science of pigments for inks can be broken into a number of subdivisions each of which have specific and overlapping influences on performance.
