Abstract
A method is proposed for the automatic inspection of jet engine turbine blades using transient infrared thermography. The blades are thermally stimulated using internal flow (water) at different temperatures. By looking on the pressure (or suction) side of the blade, it is possible to detect and locate blocked cooling passages. Differential time-resolved image analysis methods are shown to effectively improve the visibility of obstruction defects in the presence of strong temperature fluctuations across the blade. Examples of such analyse are presented.
