Abstract

Originally conceived at a time whenlens design was carried out on Marchand calculators SYNOPSYS was one ofthe earliest and is now one of the largest design programs. SYNOPSYS was for many years the personal design tool ofits author. Since it was then the only tool available itwas necessary to develop a comprehensive set of capabilities requiring much innovation and experimentation.
