Abstract
Put an Electro-optic Modulator into a crossed polarized light field, the retardation measured point on sample is compensated by the electro-optic birefringence of Electro-optic Modulator under an applied voltage. When the compensation is complete, the modulation frequency of the light beam emerging from the analyzer changes, which is received to judge that whether the procedures were accomplished instead of observing the extinction of the light field with the naked eye. So the measuring sensitivity for retardation is easily to get 0. 0001λ. This paper presents a principle of Electro-optic Modulator in more detail and two applicable systems for photomechanics are given.
