Abstract
Optical techniques for both microwave device and circuit characterization, and phase-locking of voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) are presented. The optical approach to on-wafer testing of GaAs microwave/millimeter-wave monolithic integrated circuits (MMICs) with built-in test structures has been demonstrated at Ku-band. A MMIC VCO has also been successfully phased-locked to a picosecond optical source based on GaAs optical/microwave intermixing effect. These accomplishments have resulted in the potential applications of these techniques to MMIC manufacturing and phased-array system applications.
