Abstract
A by-product of entity representation in GIS (or any image with spatial meaning) is the level at which we can abstract relationships between those objects. The power of resolution in an object (its semantic meaning) is directly related to its actual representation. This has an immediate impact on the complexity of rules necessary to identify that object and its relationship to others in its domain. This paper will discuss the epistemological characteristics of spatial reasoning and its implication in the development of a generic geometry engine for spatial reasoning and understanding.
