Expanding the electromagnetic field in partially open cavity resonators in terms of the eigenmodes corresponding to the short-circuited cavity leads to a non-uniform convergence at the apertures. Recently it has been suggested [1] to overcome this problem by using the complex eigenmodes of the original cavity although the set of these eigenmodes is not complete. Both methods are applied here to an open transmission line resonator and the results are compared. Furthermore an alternative way of removing the non-uniform convergence is proposed resulting in a rigorous and numerically efficient method for the analysis of open cavity resonators.
