Abstract
The Gemini Telescopes are technically advanced 8-m class telescopes which are characterized by their excellent image quality, low emissivity and versatility goals. Gemini has had the foresight to realize the importance of instrumentation support and services to achieve these goals. The instrumentation group of the Gemini Project has developed a preliminary design for an instrument rotator, instrument support structure, and cable/services wrap which satisfies the Gemini science requirements and engineering requirements. This concept will be the subject of a preliminary design review in June, 1994. This paper describes the driving scientific and engineering requirements, the preliminary design, and provides a brief explanation of how the design satisfies the requirements.
