Abstract

The windows of some opto-electronic detectors are made of polycrystals these days. For example, there are the well known Irtran series. There is also a mineral material called chalcedony was introduced into optics recently as a kind of scattering functional window material. But generally speaking, the mineral material is not uniform enough to be of practical usage. We now suggest some kinds of man made materials such as the Al₂O₃ ceramics and glass-ceramics which were generally used in the other areas except in optics. We have found that these materials have some special optical scattering properties.
