Abstract
A new remotely operated semiautomatic robot system has been developed for safe and efficient installation of aerial telecommunication cable. The system permits aerial cable to be installed by a field robot that is controlled from the ground instead of by skilled linesmen. Employing threedimensional positional detection using images, and two auxiliary arms attached to the robot and a manipulator gripper that can be taught complex sequences of actions, the robot achieves semiautomatic operation and attitude control.
