Abstract
In this paper, results of controlled experiments of digital terrain reconstruction and ortho image computation in a rural region in Taiwan, R.O.C., using digitized aerial images are presented. The reconstructed object surface by facets stereo vision (FAST Vision) is compared with the one that is measured by an operator on an analytical stereoplotter Wild BC1. The correctness and applicability of the models in FAST Vision were confirmed in these tests, but some limits of its models an deficiencies of the used photoscanner were found, too. These topics are discussed at some length in this paper, which covers the impact of different types of texture, the correctness of estimation of standard deviations of object surface, the impact of regularization and bridging method, reconstruction of break lines of surface and of grey value edges, and so on. All of this information gives very useful hints to improve this matching method.
