Abstract
We present a new approach to the problem of matching spline curves. The method formulates the matching problem directly between control polygons and knot sequences of the B-spline curves. The control polygon and the knot sequence contain all shape information of a B-spline curve. The consequences are that curves do not need to be sampled in the matching process and sampling frequency does not have to be considered. The method is invariant under affine coordinate transformation. We give a short introduction to B-splines, explain the properties which make B-splines interesting with respect to computer vision and digital photogrammetry, give the matching procedure, three examples, and discuss some generalizations to which the use of rational B-splines curves seems to be interesting because these are invariant under projective coordinate transformation.
