17 August 1994User-guided measuring in digital aerial triangulation
Design principles for user-guided image measuring software in digital aerial triangulation are described. The design concept is based on the idea that the measuring software should support interactive work as well as possible. The flow of work in aerial triangulation is described as an iterative process, with the emphasis on utilization of semi-automatic tools in windowing and measuring. A new method for achieving sub-pixel accuracy in visual work is described in detail. A digital photogrammetric workstation for the user-guided image measuring in digital aerial triangulation has been implemented at the Finnish Geodetic Institute. The system is built on the silicon graphics Indy workstation. The measuring software has been tested with material from the European Organization for Experimental Photogrammetry test called Aerotriangulation using digitized images. With observations on images of 15 micrometers resolution the standard error of unit weight from the bundle block adjustment ranged from 2.9 micrometers to 4.2 micrometers , depending on the measuring technique and the number of observations.
