Abstract
Digital aerial triangulation has been developed to an almost completely automated procedure in the last few years. One step is left, the measurement of signalized points, especially ground control points, but also of signalized check points and of cadastral points, required in some of the applications. Their measurement is usually performed manually. A new approach using feature extraction methods is presented. First a region segmentation is performed to exclude the background and the region border is then refined by active contour models. In a second stage we intended it to perform a shape analysis. Already the first, realized stage described here allows the determination of the center of a signalized point with practically the same precision as by matching methods. And still not all knowledge is used, especially symmetry which will be part of stage two. The required parameters for the new method and the achieved results in an empirical test with real image data are compared to manual measurements and to two established matching methods.
