Abstract

Bicomponent mixtures of polar compounds with -CN terminal group, in which the induction of a smectic A_d phase occurs, were investigated by thermomicroscopy and x-ray method. It is shown that the induction phenomenon depends on the structure of rigid cores and the alkyl chain lengths of both compounds.
