Abstract
The computer simulation model for adaptive segmentation of 2D visual objects is based on several psychological and neurophysiological principles. the following stages of visual information processing are simulated: (1) the preliminary image estimation, which is made by the analysis of the image intensity distribution; (2) they synthesis of the control process for primary image segmentation based on the results of initial image estimation; (3) the invocation of 'sustained' and 'transient' mechanisms of image description; the first one extracts information about the image contours, while the second selects the fragments with homogeneous intensity; (4) the evaluation of primary image descriptions based on the analysis of image spatial characteristics; (5) the synthesis of a processing scheme that includes the assignment and the adjustment of processing operations for each image fragment, produced from the previous analysis; (6) the final image segmentation stage, carried out by the processing of 'sustained' and 'transient' image descriptions. The computer program for adaptive image segmentation has been tested on various 2D grayscale images.
