Abstract
During the German D2 Mission (STS 55) on the Space Shuttle in May 1993 the modular optoelectronic multispectral/stereo scanner MOMS 02 acquired more than 1000 scenes within 48 data takes. This sensor is a push broom instrument with 8 CCD arrays for various panchromatic and multispectral bands. Because laboratory calibration was not available at that time, a statistical approach was chosen to correct for system artifacts. This paper presents the correction technique and its implementation. To account for the scene adaptive character of the algorithm the improvement achieved for each individual image had to be verified. Therefore a one page image quality protocol was developed which presents a set of relevant parameters in a combination of image, graph and text displays. The collected pages were suitable to serve as a catalog for access and recall of the correction results at any time without saving the actual image data. The concept of automatically generated and printed data quality protocols proved to be an efficient tool in surveying the processing of large amounts of data. Therefore it will be integrated in the data processing for the MOMS PRIRODA mission which will start in mid 1996.
