Abstract
An extensive study of the effect of deformation, temperature and rate of deformation on the superelastic behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys wires was undertaken. This paper presents the first results. The temperature effect is to shift the stress-strain curve upward. It is generally believed that the strain rate sensitivity, sometime observed, is more a temperature effect due to the exo-endothermic transformations. In this research, the strain rate sensitivity of the transformation is demonstrated. Some interactions between the different variables are also shown.
