20 September 1996Novel design of low-loss S-shaped bend in Ti/Mg:LiNbO3 waveguide
The purpose of this paper is to design a high efficiency waveguide, and it makes use of the mature theorem of channel diffused LiNbO3 waveguide and a modified S-shaped structure. The advantage of the features offer a high coupling efficiency with fibers, larger lateral displacement and low transition loss. We have buried waveguide through indiffusion of a MgO layer for reducing the coupling loss. Further the concept of microprism-like structure is not only applied at the junction of the straight and bent waveguides, but also that is placed in the bent section. Some numerical results confirm that the design provides the better performance in the transition and bending losses.
