Abstract
This paper describes a new way for recovering FM stereo signals after being subjected to multipath interference. This approach relies on the detection of out-of-band noise to signal the occurrence of multipath events. The correction is done by controlling the cutoff frequencies of two adaptive lowpass filters used to pass the desired left and right stereo signals simultaneously. The cutoff frequency of each filter is determined by the measurement of the peak frequency found in the in-band audio signal falling within a moving time window. This measurement is only enabled in the absence of interference. The duration of correction is initially determined by the energy of the out-of-band noise but later controlled by a Fuzzy controller whose inputs are the current duration and the duration error.
