Abstract
This paper presents a generic model for situation and threat assessment influenced by the human's mental processing. The model evolved from a three level descriptive model of situation awareness, where the first level is concerned with perception of the elements in the environment, the second level concerns comprehension of the current situation and the last level deals with projection of future states of the situation. This model leads us to a high-level functional decomposition of a multilevel Situation and Threat Assessment process. The context is naval warfare where shipboard commanders and their staff require access to a wide range of information to carry out their duties. The purpose is to support the human to assess the situation and the threat by the automation of some higher level cognitive processing currently done by the human.
