12 December 1997 Multispectral measurement using a novel high-speed imaging pyrometer

Abstract
This research discusses the design, development and test of a four-color, IR, high-speed, imaging spectrometer for the characterization of dynamic temperature changes of casing materials (metals) of weapons systems during detonation. This spectrometer, was used with the knowledge that the emissivity for metals follows a second order polynomial in wavelength to produce an accurate optical pyrometer system. A laboratory experiment was setup to verify the performance of the system. It was shown that the new spectrometer accurately calculated the coefficients for emissivity and determined the temperature across a metal material within 5 degrees centigrade.
