Abstract
The EMERALD Project has the objective to develop and exploit multimedia services for medical imaging environments over broadband networks. The partners include hospitals, technical universities, research organizations and industrial companies of the medical imaging scene. The project has focused on the exploitation phase (2 years), although a thorough user requirement analysis was performed, followed by the well-known specification and development activities. The development of the technical platform offering the services was based on an existing ATM Telemedicine platform developed earlier by GBT- UPM, one of the EMERALD partners. The architecture and the services were enhanced or newly developed based on the generic concept of the Open Medical Imaging Telemedicine Platform, which is also presented in this paper.
