Abstract
Based on several experimental measurements performed on Er3+-doped Ti:LiNbO3 optical waveguides, this paper presents some theoretical and experimental results concerning the refractive-index profile and the absorption spectra corresponding to the transition 4I15/2 yields 4I13/2. The refractive-index profile of the above mentioned waveguide has been determined from near field intensity measurement using an optical fiber. A deconvolution algorithm for the original mode field of the waveguide reconstruction has been expanded and optimized for 2D applications. By using the reported model it is possible to evaluate some parameters which characterize the optical waveguides like: the refractive-index difference (Delta) n and the penetration depth d. The homogeneous absorption and emission cross sections have been calculated from the transmitted spectrum around 1531 nm of the Er3+-doped Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide using the density matrix formalism.
