Abstract

In modern standards on the covering power of a paint, the relation A equals R_BB//R_WB, where R_BB, R_WB- the reflectivity's of paints with the black and white substrate surfaces, respectively, is used as the criterion one. Here we compare this criterion with other definitions for a contrast. It is shown, that usage A equals R_WB-R_BB/R_WB + R_BB is the most appropriate to evaluate a covering power of a paint from the viewpoint of visual perception. The expedience for the present-day standards to be corrected is argumented through corresponding computations.
