Abstract
The integration of automatic object extraction from imagery and GIS for the update of geodata becomes more and more important. The most obvious reasons for this are (1) in many countries large geodata bases were built up in the last decade which have to be kept up to date and (2) the progress in automatic object extraction will lead to practical application. In this paper we describe a method for the automatic extraction of forest, settlement, roads, and trees. The individual approaches are combined such that the underlying new model contains global and local context knowledge and is in compliance with the GIS data catalogue. The results of the automatic object extraction process are compared with the existing GIS objects. For this task we apply a method, which allows to model the positional and abstraction uncertainty of the object’s borders stochastically and leads to a probability-based decision of topological relations between area objects. By means of examples we demonstrate that the proposed method is useful for database update and quality description.
