Abstract
Two related visual models, the almost constant volume operator and the intensity dependent spatial summation with the adaptation suggested by Reese are used to process intensity gradient discontinuities and luminance discontinuities change in presence of noise. We explore the response to creases in both models when the involved parameters are background intensity and crease width. We analyze the output to step edges using additive and multiplicative Gaussian noise.
