Abstract
Goal lattices are a method for ordering the goals of a system and associating with each goal the value of performing that goal in terms of how much it contributes to the accomplishment of the topmost goal of a system. Since the lowest goals in the lattice are the real, measurable actions such as sensor observations, this method associates a value of taking an action with each possible action allowing one to rank those that are mutually exclusive. This paper presents the results of using the GMU Goal Lattice Engine (GMUGLE) to enter a set of goals and relative values for a reconnaissance mission management problems. The automatic expansion of the partially ordered set of goals to form a lattice which results from the strict application of a least upper bound (lub) and greatest lower bound (glb) for each pair of goals is documented as well as the automatic creation of pseudo-goals.
