Abstract
A new kind of a light interferometer based on a planar multimode waveguide is observed. The interferometer is based on interference of several propagating modes of a planar waveguide. One of the intrinsic properties of this interferometers its fringe spacing can be much smaller than the wavelength of light. The fringe spacing of about one nines of a light wavelength has been observed experimentally. (Abstract only available)
