Abstract
We show how second-order optical nonlinearities can be used to optically control the reflectance and transmittance of a material structure in the form of a one-dimensional photonic crystal or, in general, a microcavity. For such purpose a control beam at the second harmonic frequency is used. As nonlinear materials filling the microcavity we consider the cases of inorganic crystals and semiconductors. Experimental results in the first case are shown, and possible material distributions for the second case are investigated theoretically.
