Abstract
This document analyzes the existing techniques of acquiring high power 980 nm laser radiation, which is required for pumping erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in developed by us method of connecting it to fiber-optic communication line (FOCL). Unlike the traditional method, this new one lies in transferring the information signal and pump radiation in common single-mode optical fiber, which provides the opportunity to remove the electrical components from the zone, where the amplifier is situated. We review the advantages and disadvantages of every technique, as well as consider the perspective technologies, wide application of which is expected in the near future. Also, suggestions on usage of alternative pump impulse sources are offered and some results of our current research are discussed.
