21 October 2005Waveform digitizing laser scanners for surveying and surveillance applications
We discuss the potential of waveform digitizing scanning lidars for two different applications: surveying applications and collision avoidance applications, both from airborne or terrestrial platforms. These two applications impose remarkably different requirements on the scanning lidar, which, nevertheless, can both be met with a similar hardware architecture by appropriately designing the processing algorithms for the digitized echo waveforms, taking into consideration fundamental parameters as laser beam geometry and scan speed.
