6 November 2006Relationship between the degree of polarization and stability of source wavelength in fiber optic sensors
In high precision fiber optical sensors, the instability of polarization states of light, especially the degree of polarization
(DOP), becomes the main factor restricting the enhancement of the instrument performance. For the first time the
relationship between DOP of input light and the mean wavelength of output light when light passes the waveguide
polarizer was put forward in this paper. Based upon Muller matrix, the system mathematical model was established.
Using the software of MATLAB, simulation and analysis was accomplished. The results indicate that spectrum
instability of output light and DOP of input light are entirety correlative. The mean wavelength of output light increases
nonlinearly with the increasing of DOP of input light. Experimental configuration is put up and experiments are done to
verify the results by simulation.
