Abstract

The state of the art of high power CO₂ lasers for materials processing is reviewed. The main characteristics of the active medium, of the optical cavity, of the fluidodynamic circuit and their effects on the beam quality, overall efficiency, sizes and weights are discussed for the various configurations. An outline of the areas where improvements can be expected is also given.
