Abstract
Progress in Light Sources (LS) based on the emission of electromagnetic radiation by the electron and ion beams in periodic electromagnetic fields of undulators becomes to be highly promising. Trends in the development of such sources and problems of high current, low emittance electron and ion beam production for spontaneous incoherent sources and short period trains of the bunches for coherent and stimulated sources will be discussed.
