Abstract
The optimization of output power and beam quality of a diode pumped solid state laser is a difficult task. In this paper, we present a method to calculate approximate values of the beam quality factor M2 and the output power of a laser. Our method is based on the well-known Gauss mode analysis combined with rate equations. As an application we analyze the beam quality of a Q-switched solid state laser.
