Abstract
The article analyses possibilities of applying a multicore active optical fiber with a hexagonal array of cores for the construction of a fiber laser. Simulations of the far-field diffraction patterns of the seven-core optical fiber have been conducted. Taking a double - clad active optical fiber operating in the fiber laser system as an example, the idea of phase-locking of the radiation generated in particular cores, and thereby the possibility of generating a supermode have been presented. Moreover, the article analyses the impact of the value of coupling between the cores on the difference in radiation phases between particular emitters during the development of the laser action in the fiber laser constructed on the basis of the optical fiber being considered. As a result of the conducted analysis a double-clad optical fiber with 7 cores doped with neodymium ions has been designed and produced and its luminescence properties have been measured.
