Abstract

This article reviews the development process of Geographic Information System (GIS) platform technology in the past decade, and prospects the future directions of the GIS industry. The influence of the future development direction on future GIS applications was also discussed in this paper for the reference of GIS developers and end users to select the right and promising GIS platform.
