Abstract
This paper presents a new and efficient method for the detection of concentric ellipses with the same orientation in images on the basis of the Hough Transform (HT). In order to meet real application requirements of high detection accuracy and low time and space costs, the method detects the parameters of ellipses separately with a five-step algorithm by using the special geometry properties of concentric ellipses instead of gradient information or central symmetric points. Some experimental results on both synthetic and real images show that the method is more efficient, accurate, and robust than the Randomized Hough Transform (RHT) method.
