Abstract
The key to understanding the PcModWin©/MODTRAN® software and its various outputs is a working knowledge of the underlying parameter space and physics of refraction, reflection, absorption, scattering, and transmission by various substances in any of their possible phases: gaseous, liquid, or solid, and their amalgamation into a composite analytical form. This requires exposure to radiometry, blackbody radiation, Mie scattering theory, atmospheric transmittance and scattering, and radiative transfer.
