Scope

In celebration of Women in Optics and the 20th Anniversary of the SPIE Conference on Organic, Hybrid and Perovskite Photovoltaics, a special conference on Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) was held in San Diego in August 2019. The theme of the conference was key trends in renewable energy research developed and led by women scientists and engineers from around the world. This Call for Papers is partially based on contributions from that conference. It is also open to all applicants who are interested in submitting original research and review articles, as well as short communications and mini-reviews that cover the latest research findings and trends from the last couple of years.

This special section will center on novel concepts, materials, devices, and architectures for renewable energy with its transformative future global utilization, and applications in enabling technologies. The scope covers, but is not limited to, the following general areas:

WiRE
  • Conversion of solar light into electricity
  • Conversion of solar light into thermal energy
  • Conversion of solar light into chemical energy and fuel generation
  • Energy storage including batteries and capacitors
  • Fuel cells, ferroic materials (piezo, ferro, flexo)
  • Thermoelectrics – materials, methods and devices
  • Novel applications (e.g. self-powered devices for wearables and sensors).

All submissions will be peer reviewed. Peer review will commence immediately upon manuscript submission, with a goal of making a first decision within six weeks of manuscript receipt. Submissions should follow the author guidelines for JPE. Manuscripts should be submitted online at https://jpe.msubmit.net. A cover letter indicating that the submission is intended for this special section should be included.

NOTE: All papers in this special section will be published with complimentary open access; the Journal of Photonics for Energy will waive the publication charge.

Publication is currently in progress for this special section of Volume 10, Issue 4.
