Abstract
An analytical expression for the bandwidth of the reflection peak of a uniformly sampled fiber Bragg grating is achieved for the first time by expanding the index modulation into Fourier orders. The equivalent ac index change and duty cycle here are the two critical factors in determining the accuracy. The expression also well explains the asymmetric distribution of the reflective spectrum. Simulation results based on the transfer-matrix method agree well with the calculations.
